“I have struggled with self-confidence much of my life. Yet I have discovered something wonderful that helps me feel stronger, and instantly. IT’S MY BODY. When I posture my body in a healthy way, I feel calm and clear-minded. Paying attention to the yummy sensations of a deep breath and a smile my anxiety begins to give way to feeling more confident, more compassionate. I feel good. Therefore, whenever I am going into an important meeting at work or having an emotional conversation with family or lover, or about to give a presentation to a large group or simply feeling uncertain about life or especially when I catch my cranky-looking expression in a reflection, I take a moment to stand tall, open my heart, breathe deeply and smile, BIG…and I know I will be my best self.

As a fitness professional, I realize how powerful my body is in shaping who I am…helping me feel good about who I am. My fit body has become my greatest inspiration in life…my physical strength, flexibility, balance, and healthy posture help me feel confident, open-minded, intelligent, resilient, and kind…my clients have the same experience. Now, not all of us have decided to exercise on a regular basis yet we still can experience the strength and balance of good posture and how that makes us feel confident, instantly. This has impassioned me to dedicate my creativity to this program, PosturePowerYoga.

This concept comes alive through The MAGIC Formula for Good Posture & Personal Power, a terrific tool to interrupt stress and elevate your personal power by improving your posture. I wanted to share this with you with the hope it will be helpful.”

Our Body Shapes Who We Are—The Research

Research in behavioral psychology from universities such as the University of Chicago (Sian Beilock) and Harvard University (Amy Cuddy) shares with us how our body language directly influences what we think and feel. Hormones and neuro-transmitters are triggered by our body’s posture and movements influencing the processes of our brain. Many of us have heard the statistic that 93% of how we communicate with others is with our body language; our posture, facial expression, tone of voice, gestures, pace of walking, and energy or vibration. This influences what others think and feel about us. But more importantly, we are learning that this body language significantly influences how we think and feel about ourselves. And how we feel about ourself affects how we interact with others and influences the choices we make and the outcomes of our life. What you believe about yourself and how you behave is who you become. And who you are influences the world around you, for better or worse. The World needs a lot more of the “better.”

Our Body shapes Who We Are

And there is something more profound. Ancient Yogic, Sufi, and Chinese-medicine traditions have told us that our body holds sacred vibrations and energies that flow through centers or chakras that help awaken us to our inner knowing. This is our sacred consciousness, our inner Being, our soul connection with the Divine. We experience a yummy feeling and an intrinsic knowing that we are connected to something other than just this World—a Sacred Consciousness that completely accepts and loves us. This is what helps keep us physically healthy and in a positive frame of mind…what helps keep us aware of our innate heart qualities. Awake to this connection is what keeps us happy. Through yoga and meditation, we align in good posture and open our chakra centers so this life-force energy flows freely and “our vibe” is strong. We feel more relaxed, grounded and centered, more optimistic…more us.

OUR BODY IS THE HOLY GRAIL, THE CHALICE OF DIVINE VIBRATION

“My body feels holy in some way and I believe in myself. That nagging inner tape changes from “I am not good enough” to “I am more than enough. I am unique, beautiful, and priceless to this world.”

We are beginning to realize something hugely important—that how this sacred energy flows affects what we believe and thus how we create what we want or don’t want in life. It is BodyWisdom. In quantum physics language, this points to the process of manifestation. In other words, you were once vibrations that have become matter–your body is evidence of this, of the sacred becoming manifest. Your body is the container, the Holy Grail if you will, of energies from Earth and Cosmos that blend into a unique vibration that makes you you. In other words, this is your Personal Power, Your VIBE. Therefore, just as you were created from vibration, so too you have the power to create from vibration. This personal power to create is the turn of The 6Bs of Transformation cycle (see below).

Most of think that Personal Power means our ability to manifest the desires of our Ego,“getting”what you want, getting the stuff you want out of Life. Pretty much all of us are obsessed with money, fame, possession, and power over others—“the more stuff I amass, the more respected and lovable I am and the more safe I am.”Yet as Life goes on and we look at the world around us, we cannot deny that something is off and that this way of being in life is not the power that fulfills our destiny, it is not the power that fulfills our Heart. Personal Power is the power to create this moment the way we want. We can choose to create drama or peace. We can choose to connect with our inner Being or not. If we move forward and decide that we want to manifest life as a more loving and meaningful experience, then we must find a way to direct our personal power toward creating peace and that requires us to find a way to consciously connect with our Heart…and that means get out of our mind and connect with our Body. The 6Bs of Transformation is the formula.

Here is a bit of context before explaining the process of The 6Bs of Transformation.

Many think we create in our MIND. Not so—if by create you mean manifest something “new.”The Mind only regenerates the past. Though a remarkable thing, our Mind is merely a tool, a tool to help us reason and express ourselves in Life. And unfortunately, over the past millennia, we have disconnected our Mind from our Heart and so our Mind is purely EGO—knowing only what it knows, obsessed with the material world. It has lost its objectivity and ability to reason and has become solely focused on recreating the same experience, drama, over and over again…because it only knows how to control, not create. Our Ego has us convinced that this is Who we are. Yet if we are beginning to understand that we are more than an Ego, that we are not a victim but rather truly a creator, then we need to find a way to gain some perspective away from this narrow understanding of Life and Love. We need to gain some Heart perspective.

Creation and Manifestation, creating something new, a New Earth for example, comes from our awakening to our power to create, awakening to who we truly are, awakening to our Being, to our connection to the Divine. The Divine is Creator. To connect with our own divinity, we need to connect with our Body—within which our Heart dwells. The most immediate way is through your Breath along with aligning your Body. Your Being’s energy flows into your consciousness, and now your Mind is useful. It has regained is purity and is in service to your Destiny. Awakening to your Being, your thoughts and feelings are of your True Self and influence what you Believe. What you Believe is the motivation for how you Behave. Your Behavior becomes an outcome, and this Becomes who you are in life. This is your personal power in action. In other words, this is your power of manifestation. Just as each of us were once a sacred vibration that became a sacred thought that became form, a manifested entity in this world, so in like fashion our thoughts are made manifest. Meaning if we are connected to our divine essence our mind is filled with good thoughts that become our core belief in the Divine. However, if we are disconnected, then our mind is filled with fear and vulnerable to the misguided impressions of the world and we become Ego. And whichever we choose, to manifest from the Ego or from our Being will become the experience of our Life—cranky thoughts, cranky interactions, cranky life or loving thoughts, loving interactions, loving life.

Now knowing the evidence provided by this powerful research, it is worth taking a few minutes to reconsider that what we have learned up to now in the realms of psycho-therapy and spiritual teachings about self-help, about “how to live your best life—to heal old wounds and improve your life.”Most mentors and spiritual guides tell you to change your thoughts, think more positively. That is true. YET it is hugely difficult and actually rather unsuccessful in the long run. Usually we feel a bit better for a while until some “drama triggers us”and we default to fear. It takes lots of time and effort to keep trying to catch our selves thinking negatively and change our thoughts into positive ones. It is hard to keep our positive outlook and faith in the Divine when we live in a World so steeped in the negativity of Egoism and materiality…rooted in doubt, fear and unquenchable wanting. The reason this is rather ineffective is because we are trying to change our mind by trying to change our mind. Yet we have just learned that our mind is merely a tool…it is not the source of who we are. And when it is disconnected from our Source it is easily swayed by our Ego. Therefore, to effect a permanent change in the way that we think we need to root our mind to our Source, to our Being,  and to do that we need to connect with our Body.

Negative or egoic thinking stresses us out, stresses our Body. Bringing our attention to the stress and tension in our Body awakens us to our disconnect from our divinity. Awake, we now have the opportunity to change our Body, to help it relax and calm down. As we connect with our Body, our Heart naturally opens and our innate vibrations of loving-kindness and compassion arise. We experience good vibes. The goodvibes are godvibes flow freely through us and we begin to remember Who We Truly Are. And our thoughts begin to automatically shift into more positive perspectives. These thought vibes begin to flow through The 6Bs of Transformation cycle and influence our beliefs and behavior, they influence and create our experience in this moment. So rather than working to change our thoughts we have instead worked to reconnect our mind to our Divine Truth, to Source. We have remembered our True nature and thus of course think more positively.

As we work with the process of The 6Bs of Transformation, we are realizing that psyho-therapy may be less effective than we once thought. The process of looking at our past, we begin to see how retelling our negative stories in order to analyze them and find some answers may actually only keep re-triggering us into negative energy and our pain—we are literally experiencing tension today because of stuff from the past. Now it is true, that trauma does live in our mind and body. Yet it may also be true that reliving it in our mind without engaging the body will not help it resolve. If instead, we open in this moment to our Divine Truth while reflecting on the painful past, the trauma incurred now has some space to resolve. We now have divine energies, such as self-compassion and self love to help it, and thus us, transform. Opening to our Body and helping it relax and open we have the physical and emotional capacity to hold the pain and be aware of the sacred in is this moment and literally watch the transmutation happen—we can literally feel the clenching pain in our stomach and shoulders release. And being conscious of this, mindful, we now have a new reference point about how this particular life-story affects how we see ourselves and our life. We have a more sacred context in which to hold the story of our past and thus we begin to realize these were powerful experiences to help us grow, awaken and evolve. We begin to hold our painful past in a mindset of gratitude for what we learned about ourselves, and Life and Love rather than continue to allow it power in defining who we are. In other words, we have become conscious of our LOVEVIBE and through this have activated the alchemical process of changing our pain into joy—the joy that comes from reconnecting with our inner Being and divinity and raising our consciousness,

So rather than trying to change what you are thinking right now to something more loving and positive. Try sitting taller, place your hand on your heart, take a long, slow, smooth, breath, and gently smile. Now notice how your body feels, how you feel. Now notice what you are thinking.

REMEMBERING WHO YOU TRULY ARE WILL TRANSFORM YOUR NEGATIVE THINKING. Connecting with your Body and relaxing and energizing it will reawaken you to your yummy LoveVibe and help you to remember.

Let’s get a bit more practical and take a look at our day to day to make this conversation more applicable. Think about how you might look and feel most of the time. Ever heard of “resting bitch face?” Well most of us have “resting schlump bod” too. This chronic negative body language disconnects you from Being and negatively influences what you think about yourself. The postures and other negative gestures shut down our healthy flow of energy and this triggers limiting beliefs about yourself which generate limiting beliefs about Life…lowering your sense of confidence and self-esteem, diminishing your power to create the life you want. However, there is a very easy way to “remember your true self and raise your vibe.”

RECIPROCATING INFLUENCES—RAISING YOUR VIBE, ELEVATING YOUR PERSONAL POWER

The concept of The 6 Bs of Transformation—Being, Body, Belief, Behavior, Become, Breathe—exhibits the power of our Body-Mind-Soul connection. It demonstrates that our body, beliefs, and behaviors reciprocate energies influencing who we become. This cycle reveals that to maintain a strong self-esteem, one uses the Breath to connect to our Body so you are awake to your inner Being, aware of the Truth of who you are. This Transformation cycle (see below) turns in a positive direction keeping our outlook and relationship with Life healthy. The Breathe is key…a slow, smooth, full breathe connects you instantly to your divine nature.

When you are stressed, you are disconnected, often completely unaware of what you are feeling, physically or mentally. Stress makes us contract and dramatically slows the positive flow of energy through your Body. You feel depressed and thus your response to situations and toward others is from your low vibe and is negative. The Transformation cycle slows and even reverses and our outlook dims and Life becomes more difficult.  However, your full breath and good posture helps your Body to align and relax…helps you open your energy channels and raise your vibe. You become conscious of the vibrations of your BEING. You feel good, enthusiastic, and behave with positive, kind intentions. This conscious choice to stay alert to how you feel and raise your vibe by shifting your Body is your PERSONAL POWER to create the Life you deeply desire.

BEING–BODY–BELIEF–BEHAVIOR–BECOME———BREATHE

It takes just a few minutes to connect with your body and experience the evidence of how your body shapes your life. This brief body-meditation takes you through various poses and helps you consciously embody your Being. Each pose organically initiates a particular sensation in your Body and you begin to experience your Body’s wisdom–BodyWisdom. You experience how your sensations foster feelings and generate emotions. And how these generate thoughts. More profoundly, you notice how these good feelings foster a sense of well being and freedom, the foundational energy of creativity. Within a short time of practicing, you will begin to become familiar with your Body’s energy and how to good posture and a full breath to “raise your vibe!”You will experience the sensation of your True Self, and how this ignites your self-confidence and personalpower.

Connecting with your BODY, by taking a long, slow, smooth BREATH and aligning in good posture, you begin to awaken to your inner BEING. Feeling relaxed and connected to your Body, you experience strong BELIEF in yourself.…”I feel good about me.”  You feel inspired to choose BEHAVIOR that resonates with your deep heart-felt values…respect, gratitude, acceptance, compassion, kindness, and love. And in reciprocation, the vibe of this behavior influences your awareness of your inner BEING. You become calm and feel generous, think positively, and look great…you BECOME the woman you want to be.

THE 6 POSES of THE 6Bs of TRANSFORMATION

1. BEING.  BALASANA (worship of Inner Being—the Sacred)

Lie curled up on the floor over your legs with your head down. Allow yourself to feel the sensations of surrender, of release, of humility and worship. Empty your mind and body of stress and worry. Feel like a seed deep within the rich dark soils of the Earth. You are being held. Allow yourself to relax and feel connected to your inner BEING…you are tapping into energies of creativity and renewal. Take 3 breathes.

2. BREATHE. PRANA OM (the breath of LIFE and LOVE

Begin to take slow, smooth, full breathes and slowly rise. Feel the soles of your feet connecting with Earth. Rolling up through your body feel life-force come up through your legs and into your torso…this is the sensation of rebirth. Draw the breath up through your spine as you uncurl to stand tall. You are being re-created newly for a new day.

3. BODY. TADASANA (Awakening to One’s Divine truth)

Stand in good posture with your spine long, head lifted and heart open. Draw the breath up through your body and allow yourself to feel filled with love. Place your hands on your belly and feel your feet your body upon the Earth. You are the holy grail, the sacred vessel.

4. BELIEF. URDHVA HASTASANA (Offering One’s Faith in the Universe to the World)

Feeling uplifted by the life-force of Earth reach upward and open to creative energy coming down from the Cosmos through the crown of your head. Let it flow into your heart. As it flows into your torso do a gentle Kegel Contraction to capture both Earth and Cosmic energy in your body. As the cup, fill your body with inspiration, fill your body with Being. As this energy flows through you feel  your sacred, your “sovereign, queen-like” nature. Notice that you begin to awaken to your true self. Your core BELIEF is in yourself and in the goodness of the Universe.

5. BEHAVIOR. UTTIHTA TADASANA (Extending Yourself and LOVE to the World)

Standing tall, place each hand on your heart and belly, soften your face, and feel your BODY…this is the experience of your soul embodied. This is the manifestation of the energies that make you you. Feel the sensations in your chest and mid-torso. This is your CORE. the center of you. The energy here in your solar plexus holds your soul mission.  Notice that this energy is informed by your heart chakra from above (cosmos) which is your loving-kindness, and your belly chakra below which is your lust for life. Conscious of this enlivening sensation in your body you feel inspired to behave with more integrity and kindness and calm intelligence, to act more in line with your soul’s calling and life purpose.

6. BECOME. TADASANA (Centered in Your True Self)

By remembering to breathe fully and gesture/move in positive ways throughout your day you will keep your heart open. The sensations flowing through your body resonate with your inner BEING and guide you to BECOME the woman you are meant to be.

Having experienced for yourself that confidence and self-love are not a function of your mind but rather are innate feelings and sensations in your body, you become convinced of the power of your body to help you feel good and live well. You awaken to the understanding that your BODY is your GUIDE. And as a result, your relationship with your body begins to become the most important one in your life…you don’t struggle so much anymore to figure out how to love yourself, you just do. And as a result, you default to “resting smiley face and resting power posture.” Loving-kindness and compassion become your “way of being.”
